| Some suggest that covered bridges were built to look like
barns to make horses feel comfortable when crossing them. There are a
number of other folklore stories to explain the design. The truth is,
they were constructed with a cover to protect the expensive roadbed and
the wooden trusses holding the bridge together. In proportion to its
area, Vermont has more covered bridges than any other state. This is the
Green River Bridge located in Guilford, Vermont. It was built in 1870
and spans 104 feet. Green River Village is a delightful place to do
photography. It personifies the image formed of a quaint New England
scene. The bridge with the nearby dam and the red barn and house provide
an excellent setting for producing a variety of photographic
possibilities. |
