Ragged Robin
"Ragged Robin"

Yes, that's the name of the flower -- sometimes referred to as the "cuckoo flower. It is in the pink (carnation) family. Other members include: fire pink, chickweed, deptford pink and evening lychnis). Ragged robin grows in large numbers in moist fields and meadows. What an incredible site to see large masses of these flowering plants in a field. I stopped along the road in Amherst, Massachusetts to take this photograph. Pushing my lens into the blossoms of other plants in the foreground, then focusing on the flower in the background produced the pink blur. I like the soft, ethereal sensation produced by this technique which fits the pastel pink color of the blossom.
