| The area of northwestern Pennsylvania which I was
visiting had received an abundant amount of rainfall in recent weeks,
making it an ideal time for their growth. I had already seen a number of
specimens that were not suitable for photographing. I had this
preconceived vision of the grouping I wanted. It had to be almost
perfect, in a small cluster of various heights and, of course, in the
right light. I continued meandering. Then I spotted them. They were some
of the most desirable specimens I could have hoped to find. The
arrangement of the four tightly clustered plants seemed almost
family-like. All of them had a soft pink tint to their slender white
stems and bell-shaped, nodding flowers. Their simple, translucent leaves
looked so fragile and glass-like that they appeared artificial. What a
great image the Indian pipes made. |
